چکیده

We describe a parallel solution to the problem of resolving non-ordinary singularities of a plane algebraic curve. The original sequential program is implemented in the software library CASA on top of the computer algebra system Maple. The new parallel version is based on Distributed Maple, a distributed programming extension written in Java. We evaluate the performance of the program in a cluster environment and compare it to that on a massively parallel multiprocessor.

Computing the Hausdorff Distance between Curved Objects

The Hausdorff distance between two sets of curves is a measure for the similarity of these objects and therefore an interesting feature in shape recognition. If the curves are algebraic computing the Hausdorff distance involves computing the intersection points of the Voronoi edges of the one set with the curves in the other. Since computing the Voronoi diagram of curves is quite difficult we c...

Jacobi Curves: Computing the Exact Topology of Arrangements of Non-singular Algebraic Curves

We present an approach that extends the BentleyOttmann sweep-line algorithm [3] to the exact computation of the topology of arrangements induced by non-singular algebraic curves of arbitrary degrees. Algebraic curves of degree greater than 1 are difficult to handle in case one is interested in exact and efficient solutions. In general, the coordinates of intersection points of two curves are no...

Computation of the Topology Types of the Level Curves of Real Algebraic Surfaces

In this paper, we address the problem of determining the z-values where the topology type of the level curves of an algebraic surface may change. In the case when the surface is bounded and non-singular, this question is solved by Morse Theory. However, here we consider the problem for the more general case of algebraic surfaces without further restrictions, i.e. not necessarily bounded or smoo...

Computer algebra and geometry – some interactions

Algebraic curves and surfaces have been studied intensively in algebraic geometry for centuries. Thus, there exists a huge amount of theoretical knowledge about these geometric objects. Recently, algebraic curves and surfaces play an important and ever increasing rôle in computer aided geometric design, computer vision, computer aided manufacturing, coding theory, and cryptography, just to name...

Advances in Algebraic Geometric Computation

Algebraic curves and surfaces play an important and ever increasing role in computer aided geometric design, computer vision, and computer aided manufacturing. Consequently, theoretical results need to be adapted to practical needs. We need efficient algorithms for generating, representing, manipulating, analyzing, rendering algebraic curves and surfaces. In the last years there has been dramat...
